Tonight Mary Newman taught an excellent and vibrant yoga class in the Girls Unit. This picture is not from this evening but it makes me think of how amazing it is that we can offer the healing of yoga to these kids. There was a large group tonight and so many felt peaceful, happy, blessed after the yoga class. What a gift to teach this fast mood changer that they can keep for life.

The boys unit, I'm told, was also a great class taught by Ling Chen. Many of the boys had the sniffles from a cold but they all tried hard and always want to do their best and build on what we taught them the week before. I love when they tell me they practice during the week on their own. It amazes me!

Tonight Nick and I met our wonderful URY Ambassador Jay Bridgland and his wife Jenny for dinner. I'm dazzled and amazed by such a great couple, great dinner and good time. We spoke about how URY started and shared stories about the kids in juvenile hall.

Jay mentioned how he found us through Bikram Yoga Mountain View studio owner Cynthia Wehr. http://www.bikramyogamountainview.com Jay got pulled into our cause and offered to do a fundraiser by selling his original one-of-a-kind hand made Murano Glass Jewelry. To see his work is truly breathtaking. To hear him speak about how our cause has touched him personally inspired me and reminded me how people that believe in the power of yoga knows that yoga can work for anyone, especially for at-risk youth. He really got our mission when we spoke and his desire to spread the word of what we are doing keeps me in the strong belief that people really want to do good, see good for others and step up to make things happen for strangers. This is art. This is yoga. This is the coming together to make a better world. A true Namaste.
